Chatterbox
Problem: Children between the ages of 13-17 struggle to communicate their emotions to their parents/guardians. This age range tends to ignore signs and symptoms of something being medically wrong because of fear of embarrassment among peers and parents.
Research: Collaborated with Occupational Therapy unit from Jefferson Hospital, created and distributed surveys to age demographic regarding mental health and communication practices, and used local Philadelphia middle school as case study.
Solution: Normalize hard conversations relating to mental health and overall well-being between children and their parents/caregivers by creating a non-verbal communication method to help initiate these conversations.
